NASH

"We'll split up," Bailey suggested. "Those who want to stay here will stay here, and the rest will go and get the weapons. If it's not that long a walk, it should only take what—half an hour? After that, we'll all go together to find a more strategic spot in the hotel where we can hide, armed to the teeth."

I would have loved to smile at her in love. She was extremely good at keeping the large group assuaged—if you ignored that asshole, Justin. I shot him a look. At least for the moment, it looked like he'd learned his lesson.

Graham rose. "I will, of course, go with the group that is making its way to my house."

"I'll come with you." A slender blonde who stood at no more than five foot six stood up and smoothed out her black sweater.

I eyed her rather critically because she looked as if she would start crying at the mere sight of a puddle.

She wrinkled her nose. "I know what you're thinking—but don't worry. I can defend myself. My name is Clara, I'm the stunt coordinator."

"Stunts?" I repeated incredulously. "For a dating show?"

"I guess you've never seen one before. We've got slaps, beatings, and the famous push from the second floor into the pool on offer. That being said, I've been doing Krav Maga for eleven years. If you hadn't put Justin in his place, I would have."

"Welcome to the team, Clara," I said with an implied bow, and Graham shook her hand.

"I'm coming too." The oldest man, of all people, who had looked like he was about to have a heart attack earlier, stood up. "The sleeping pill has stopped working anyway."

I resisted the impulse to bury my face in my hands and moan in agony. It wasn't as if we had a choice.

"I'm going with Graham." His girlfriend Shannon, who was in charge of food and room service, had joined him at his side.

"Guess I could come too." A pale guy with dyed too dark black hair nodded at me. "Glen."

"Okay, Glen. I'll go too. Six people should be enough for the expedition." I was reluctant to leave Bailey alone, but she was tough and probably the only one who could keep the group under control. I had to rely on her, just as she had to rely on me.

Graham looked at the shotgun in his hands. "Which one of you can shoot?"

"Me," Justin gasped, still crouched on the floor.

"Me too." Leona, the redheaded contestant, stepped forward. "I grew up on a farm. My dad taught me. I'm pretty accurate, even with a moving target."

"I used to work as a cop," Justin said.

Graham looked back and forth between the two before handing Leona the shotgun. "Try not to waste ammo on him, please."

She smiled.

I looked for the shock of green hair and smiled encouragingly at Joanne. "Well, that settles that. Bailey, Joanne, and Leona are the bosses. What they say gets done. Does everyone understand that?"

All but one person answered me.
